Olvera Advisors

SECTOR - RESTRUCTURING & INSOLVENCY

The problem wasn't underinvestment. It was lack of direction.

Olvera Advisors is a specialist Sydney firm that turns uncertainty into advantage for high-net-worth clients and businesses facing stress or transformation. They had the brand, the team, the tools, and real marketing spend. What they didn't have was a straight line between any of it and the growth priorities of the leadership team. They needed a Fractional CMO to lead the marketing team and build the systems needed to carry them forward.

THE STARTING POINT

Not every marketing problem is a budget problem. Some are a direction problem.

Olvera's leadership knew their marketing wasn't working the way it needed to. What they couldn't tell was whether the issue was effort, spend, people, systems, or something more structural.

The engagement opened with a specific question: why is a well-funded, actively running marketing function not producing the pipeline the business actually needs? Olvera had a strong brand foundation. A clear tagline. Three distinct brand extensions. Content, podcasting, digital advertising, SEO, sponsorships - all live, all running.

Underneath all of it, the leadership team's growth priorities and the marketing team's day-to-day activity had quietly drifted onto two different tracks.

Underneath all of it, the leadership team's growth priorities and the marketing team's day-to-day activity had quietly drifted onto two different tracks.

OUR APPROACH

Four areas. One connected view.

Commencing with a marketing audit, we examined the marketing function across four interlocking dimensions. Looking at any one of them in isolation misses the point - because the real problems live in the gaps between them. We looked at all four, together.

01

Brand Strategy.

We reviewed the brand foundations - mission, vision, values, positioning, tagline - across the three Olvera brands. Found a strong parent brand with a powerful tagline but no formal positioning statements for the brand extensions. Clarity was needed before any downstream work could compound.

02

Marketing Strategy.

Interviewed senior leadership and the marketing team separately. Mapped the stated business priorities against where marketing's time and spend were actually going. The gap between the two became the single most important finding in the whole audit.

03

Technology and Data.

Full audit of the HubSpot CRM - contacts, deals, pipeline, properties, user adoption, reporting. Surfaced 563 deals owned by former employees, inflated deal values with no basis, and missing referral-source tracking. The CRM wasn't broken - it was mis-configured for the business Olvera actually runs.

04

Marketing Resources.

Mapped the full marketing team - internal roles and external retainers - against actual output and strategic priority. Identified where resources could be sharpened, where retainers needed re-scoping, and where in-house vs outsourced decisions needed revisiting.

The Gap

THE CORE INSIGHT

THE FINDING BENEATH ALL THE OTHER FINDINGS

Leadership was pulling on way. Marketing was pulling another.

Four separate conversations with senior leadership kept pointing to the same priority. Four separate conversations with the marketing team kept pointing to the same focus of their day-to-day: small-business lead generation. Both groups were working hard. Both groups thought they were doing the right thing. Neither had been told clearly that the other was pointed somewhere else.

Every other finding in the audit - the CRM data issues, the brand extensions, the marketing resource spend, the missing lead qualification criteria - was ultimately a symptom of this one disconnect.

FOUR WAYS THE DISCONNECT WAS SHOWING UP

FINDING 1

No approved marketing plan.

FINDING 2

Effort without strategy.

FINDING 3

Data without relevance.

FINDING 4

Spend without measurement.

THE DELIVERABLE

Roadmap.

The audit's deliverable wasn't a document to shelve - it was a prioritised, actionable roadmap for our Fractional CMO. Five high-priority recommendations, sequenced so each one builds on the last: formalise the marketing plan with Principal Advisor input, implement a marketing scorecard, cleanse and reconfigure the CRM, realign external resources, and build marketing-leadership integration into the leadership rhythm. Point in the same direction. Then start moving.
